Who are we?
Center for Ophthalmology Dr. Pavan was founded in 2006. Professional guidance and examinations are organized by PhD Josip Pavan, a well-known Croatian university professor, assistant professor and senior lecturer. The goal is to provide medical services for the prevention and treatment of eye diseases. Since its establishment, several thousand examinations and operations have been performed on patients from all over Croatia. Patients from the Karlovac, Zagreb, Rijeka and Zadar areas are especially frequent. Center for Ophthalmology Dr. Pavan also receives visits from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Germany, Italy, England and others. Center for Ophthalmology Dr. Pavan employs or engages as collaborators several ophthalmologists and specialists in certain areas (e.g. pediatric ophthalmology, retinology, etc.).
Dr. Pavan is the author of about fifty professional and scientific papers published in international journals. In addition, he is the author of two university textbooks in the field of ophthalmology. He is the co-author of another ophthalmology textbook and the book Melanoma (Medicinska naklada, Zagreb). He has also translated the book Clinical Pharmacy and Therapy (Medicinska knjiga, Zagreb) from English.
Prof. Josip Pavan has also given dozens of lectures at congresses in Croatia and abroad. After his specialization at KBC Zagreb and KB Dubrava, he spent several weeks on study visits to the Clinica Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, the Augenklinik der Ludwig-Maximilians Universität in Munich and the Instituto Barraquer in Barcelona.
He received his master's degree in 1998 on the topic of IgG and interferon-gamma in the aqueous humor of patients with diabetes and cataracts. He defended his doctoral dissertation entitled The influence of alpha hormone stimulating melanocytes on the healing of the corneal epithelium in 2004 at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb.
He is the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Clinical Hospital in Zagreb (KB Dubrava).
