Blepharoplasty
Aesthetic eyelid surgery around the eyes — for a fresher, more rested and younger look.
What does the procedure involve?
Blepharoplasty is the third most common aesthetic surgical procedure in the world, which reflects both the great interest in it and the high level of patient satisfaction. It is performed on the upper or lower eyelids, and if needed on all four eyelids in a single procedure.
It is a procedure that must be largely tailored to each individual, because every patient’s needs and results are unique.
When is the procedure indicated?
Blepharoplasty is most often done for aesthetic reasons — patients choose it to remove a tired look and rejuvenate the face. Excess skin on the upper eyelids can sometimes also interfere with vision.
That is why a calm and thorough conversation with the specialist is key, so that we understand your expectations, present all the options and choose the most suitable approach together.
We also perform eyelid procedures for:
- bags under the eyes
- chalazion
- ectropion and entropion
- abnormal eyelid position
- ptosis (drooping) of the eyelid
- eyelid tumours
How is it performed?
Upper eyelids — the main focus is excess skin, so the procedure consists primarily of removing it. If there is a build-up of fatty tissue towards the nose, it is also removed, as it is very noticeable aesthetically.
Lower eyelids — changes are mostly caused by excess fatty tissue, the so-called “bags under the eyes”. The fatty tissue is removed or repositioned where it is needed. The procedure is often performed from the inside of the eyelid, through the conjunctiva, to avoid skin incisions and visible scars. Where there is significant excess skin, techniques can be combined to tighten the skin without compromising eyelid stability.
Results
Blepharoplasty generally gives very good results and a visible improvement in appearance. Still, there are no miracle results — that is why we give patients as much information as possible in advance, without unrealistic promises.
Well-informed patients who want to refresh and rejuvenate their appearance can achieve very good results.
Possible risks
The most common “risk” of blepharoplasty is unmet patient expectations, usually the result of insufficient information. That is why we pay special attention to the conversation before the procedure — a patient who knows what to expect is, as a rule, also satisfied with the result.
